WEF results in additional flight movements at Zurich Airport

Flughafen Zürich AG expects over 1,000 additional flight movements in connection with the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos from 17-20 January 2017. These include a large number of helicopter flights.

This year’s World Economic Forum will commence on Tuesday, 17 January 2017 in Davos. As every year, a large number of well-known people from the business and political communities are expected. As many of the guests are arriving by private aircraft, up to 200 additional flight movements are expected already on Monday, 16 January 2017. Overall, around 1,000 additional take-offs and landings are anticipated between Monday and Saturday, on top of regular flight operations. During the 2017 WEF, peaks of around 800 flight movements on a single day are possible.

A total of approximately 60 stands will be available to handle WEF aircraft, depending on their size. These stands are already reserved for registered delegations. Owing to space limitations and the large number of announced participants, other aircraft with WEF passengers will be allotted a maximum of 3 hours for unloading and loading. They will then be required to leave Zurich Airport. Pilots are free to choose which alternative airports they use.

As in 2016, Dübendorf Airport will only be serviced by direct flights. Even if direct handling of flights at Dübendorf will be possible again this year it is hardly likely to affect the additional flight movements at Zurich Airport. A greater number of helicopter flights together with additional noise emissions will be inevitable in the days preceding, during and after the WEF.
