More than 31 million passengers for the first time

In 2018, 31.1 million passengers passed through Zurich Airport, corresponding to an increase of 5.8%. The number of flight movements was 3.0% higher than in 2017. Despite an increase in seat capacity and due to the use of larger aircraft, the seat load factor went up by 0.6 percentage points.

Participation process for the Glatt upgrade in the Rümlang/Oberglatt segment completed

The Glatt upgrade project entails enhancing the relatively featureless river basin on the western side of Zurich Airport in terms of its environmental and recreation value as well as providing improved flood protection. The concluding event held today marks the end of the participation process relaunched in September 2017. The airport operator will now submit the planning application for the southern section between Opfikon (Tolwäng) and Rümlang (Fromatt) to FOCA for approval. It should be available for public inspection as of mid-February 2019.

Ordinance on Airport Charges: FOCA jeopardising future investments in airport infrastructure

The Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) has presented its proposals on the revision, announced in June, of the Ordinance on Airport Charges. If FOCA's proposal is implemented, aviation revenues at Zurich Airport in the next regulatory period will be reduced by around 25%, or by more than 150 million Swiss francs. As airline ticket prices in the air travel industry are set flexibly in line with supply and demand, this reduction would not benefit passengers. However, it would have major ramifications for investments in the aviation infrastructure. Therefore, Flughafen Zürich AG will vigorously oppose this incomprehensible proposal.

New winter timetable from 28 October 2018
